Fixed Point Photography
I have been doing fixed point photography for several years including landscape wide projects for The National Trust, Wildlife Trusts and local authorities.
Fixed point photographs are taken using a Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82 digital camera set to the widest angle to capture the fullest landscape picture on a high quality setting to provide a fully detailed image (over 4 megapixels). A monopod is used to provide a consistent height and the shot angled to take in as much ground as possible. The GPS positioning is achieved using a Garmin Fortrex 401 with an additional written description and all subsequent shots lined up to compare with those taken previously to get a replication of the key details. A bearing is taken and provided for each location to ensure the correct orientation.
